So you'ren a five-hour train ride from Toronto to Ottawa with a burning desire to watch the World Cup. What do you do? Well, if you're Stuart MacDonald, you fire up the laptop, connect to Via Rail's Wi-fi network and watch the Holland-Argentina soccer game using a Slingbox. How cool is that?!
While the Slingbox is wonderful technology, the nagging question is how broad its appeal can be. I used to think the Slingbox was a no-brainer for road warriors and people able to watch TV at work but the more I see it used, the more I think it's a relatively inexpensive (one-time expense of $170 to $250) tool to give you even more control over how, when and where you watch TV. For anyone who spends a few thousand dollars on a big-screen TV, why not spend a few more bucks on a nice-to-have feature.

Hey, check out this blog - mindblast - and see if there's are any eerie similarities between its content and mine. The last two posts are crude cut and paste jobs from my blog with little or no attribution or credit. And I thought scraping only hit stars such as Om Malik. Go figure!
Update: mindblast is Qumana CEO Fred Fabro's blog. He called to let me know he was using my posts during a client demo but forgot to remove the material. Even so, not sure I like it.

Canada's version of the high-tech Oscars was held yesterday with Iotum snagging an award in the emerging technology category. It has been quite a run for the Ottawa-based telecom start-up, highlighted by Demo God honours at the Demo show in Phoenix earlier this year. Now, all Iotum needs is a user-friendly VC so it can boost sales of its relevance engine. Aside from cool technology, another thing Iotum has going for it is PR savvy (it helps having Andy Abramson onboard). COO Howard Thaw's RedBerry was recently featured in a media report. Not content to accept a black Blackberry, Thaw went to an auto body shop for some custom work. Nice.
